Self-Assembly as a Technique for Peptide-Based Materials

چکیده
Amphiphilic peptide (AP), which behaves in some respects like amphiphilic surfactants, is a class of molecule that consists of a hydrophilic peptide segment and a hydrophobic domain. In water, these molecules generally self-assemble into rods with a hydrophobic core. The peptide segments outside the hydrophobic core always prefer a β-sheet conformation. As introduced in the latest reviews [23,24], the self-assembly of AP are mainly controlled by the balance between hydrophilic and hydrophobic segments, and influenced by parameters such as temperature, pH, lights, and so on. Therefore, many pH-responsive [25], temperature-responsive [26], UV lightresponsive and enzymes-responsive [27] materials have been developed and applied, and some of these are already in commercial use, e.g. in skincare products [28]. Diamondoids and DNA Nanotechnologies
Diamondoids are cage-like saturated hydrocarbons consisting of fused cyclohexane rings. The Diamondoids family of compounds is one of the best candidates for molecular building blocks (MBBs) in nanotechnology to construct organic nanostructures compared to other MBBs known so far. The challenge is to find a route for self-assembly of these cage hydrocarbons and their applications in the bottom-...

Molecular self-assembly is a powerful technique for developing novel nanostructures by using noncovalent interactions such as hydrogen bonding, hydrophobic, electrostatic, metal–ligand, p–p and van der Waals interactions. These interactions are highly dynamic and are often delicate due to their relatively weak nature. However, a sufficient number of these weak interactions can yield a stable as...

Recently, supramolecular hydrogels assembled through nonspecific interactions between polymers and nanoparticles (termed PNP systems) were reported to have rapid shear-thinning and self-healing properties amenable for cell-delivery applications in regenerative medicine. Here, we introduce protein engineering concepts into the design of a new family of PNP hydrogels to enable direct control over...
